Rother League Round 3
Posted 23 September 2007
Basingstoke Leisure Centre
Round 3 Rother League.
Saturday 22nd September 2007
Worthing put in a strong performance under the guidance of Nic Piper and Phil Jones in their 1st League Gala as Head
Coaches.
Worthing finished 4th on the evening against tough opposition.
There were a number of good individual performances with a
handful
of 1st places as well as a number of relay wins.
This result showed the potential of the current gala squad who
can now look forward to the Speedo League Galas in October,
November and December.
Thankyou to all of those swimmers that made the effort to attend
the gala, despite it being up at Basingstoke again.

Brighton Sprint Open Meet
15th September 2007
WSC swimmers in attendance were Charlotte Barnett, Joe
Hazeldine and Alastair Hardinge.
All of the swimmers entered 4 or more races so had a long
swimming day.
Joe won 4 of his 5 races in personal best times, Charlotte
was 5th in the 50 metres backstroke and Alastair’s best position was 10th which was reflective of
his age group being 15 and over, with Alastair being just 15.
Well done to Joe, Charlotte and Alastair for their efforts at
this open meet.

Sussex League Gala 3
Posted 23 September 2007
Pavillions in the Park - (Horsham)
Sussex League Round 3.
On Saturday 7th July 2007, Worthing Swimming Club had a gala
against
Hastings and Atlantis (Horsham)
Having won the 1st 2 rounds of galas, 2nd place was likely to
have resulted
in promotion back into division 1.
Unfortunately Horsham and Hastings were too strong on the night
despite
some good swims from our gala squad.
The result secured us 3rd place overall in the Sussex League
Division 2 for
2007, with Eastbourne and Atlantis being promoted.
Well done to all of the squad for getting so close to promotion
to division
1 and keep working hard towards the final Rother League Gala
for 2007 on September 22nd.

Sea Swim Photo

Sea Swim 15 July 2007 - Photo
Album.
Worthing Swimming Clubs Annual Sea Swim was held on Sunday
15th July 2007
starting at 1 p.m from Worthing Lido. The mayor of Worthing -
Heather
Mercer started the womens race 1st,
with a few minutes gap until the mens race was started. The
Ladies swam a
distance of 400 metres west of the lido,
whereas the men swam 800 metres towards the Burlington hotel.
The ladies race was won by Girls Captain Zoe Yeandle in a time
of 5 minutes
29 seconds, 24 seconds clear of Rianna Poppeliers in 2nd.
There were 6 competitors in the race including Zoe's mum Nikki
Yeandle who
finished 6th in 8 minutes 30.
The mens race was won by Boys Captain Chris Luesley in 7 Minutes
56, with
Stuart Stirling 2nd in 8 Minutes 51.
With a personal best over the same distance of 10 minutes in a
pool, the
time of under 8 minutes highlights how significant
the strength of the tide was, especially for those swimmers that
chose to
swim further out to sea.
Both races were greatly affected by the strong easterly wind and
current
that were both of benefit to the swimmers.
The times in last Years race on the otherhand were significantly
affected
by the headwind that caused quite rough conditions.
Although the weather this year has been adverse, the sun managed
to shine
for the race and the sea wasn't as cold as you would expect
during such a poor summer.
Congratulations to all the swimmers for taking part and special
mention to
John Matthews who won the clubs 1st sea swim 40 years ago in
1967
and managed 5th place in this years race. A fantastic
achievement.
